What makes a good blob game for me?
The blobs have to be adorable, but that’s easy, because they all are!
They don’t have to be blobs - they can be slimes, oozes, goos, jellos…
Masterpiece
My favourite games in the genre, the top of the crop. As perfect as they can get, a true master class. The games I keep returning to.
Slime Rancher
The game that sets the baseline for adorable little blobs.
Find slimes, put them on your ranch, collect their poop - sorry, plorts - to make money and unlock more things, combine slimes for more plorts, and discover the storyline through mails you receive from NPCs.
+ Slime Rancher 2, also great, but haven’t played it quite as much yet.
Quite good
Games that are great, with a lot of the things I love, that I got hooked on for a good while before putting them down.
Ooze Keeper
Place slimes on islands, farm them and breed them to farm them some more!
A game that brings together resource management and monster collecting with roguelike elements. It has that “one more island” thing.
Mixed bag
These are the “needs some more time in the oven” games. They have good elements that make me not dismiss them entirely, but they also lack in too many areas to really hook me.
Really bad
I just really did not enjoy these games. They were either frustrating, unpolished, un-userfriendly, or just plain boring.
Slime Farm
Feed slimes, collect drops, expand farm, repeat.
Running a farm full of adorable slimes sounds fun, but Slime Farm feels slow, with limited activities and variety.
